Pothole Questions
What causes potholes?
Water gets into the pavement through cracks, softens the base underneath, and traffic breaks the weakened surface apart. Freeze-thaw cycles in winter speed it up.
Is a pothole patch a permanent fix?
A well-done patch holds up, but if water keeps getting into the surrounding pavement, new potholes can form nearby. Sealing cracks and sealcoating the lot are the best ways to slow that down.
